Lonnie Mair

Stephanie's Stepside
In Lonnie's first book, his protagonist is a graduate student who decides to study the effects of toxic poisoning to the land in California's western San Joaquin Valley. A powerful earthquake caused a leak in a toxic waste storage facilty. During her study, she encounters powerful forces that endanger her life. Along the way, she finds love, mystery and murder. Her faithful companion, transportation and mobile lab is her restored classic Chevrolet stepside pickup.
This eco-thriller presents a very real possible scenerio, with a very becoming, intelligent protagonist. The exciting story provides a travelogue of Central California, while it provides a look at the possible social and economic effects that an earthquake and toxic waste leak could cause to a region that has become the foodbasket of the United States and beyond.
